Robots in 1942
In 1942 the word "robotics" was first used in a short story, Runaround, written by Isaac Asimov. Who also defined the 3 points of conduct for robots. This was known as the Three Laws of Robotics and was used as an unifying theme and organizational tool for Asimov's fiction. These laws are:
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders conflict with the first law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second law.
